Sir, With due respect to Abdul Kalam, the Left parties' candidate for the Presidential election, Lakshmi Sahgal, albeit sure to lose, is no less a personality. If Dr. Kalam's candidature has a first to its credit in terms of being the first non-political/scientist Presidential contender, this lady too matches him by being the first woman candidate. The Left parties have brilliantly made their point, but I don't think this would translate into any political gain for them.
