CPI ridicules Naidu's `ignorance'

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD June 16. The secretariat of the CPI State council has taken exception to the Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu's remarks claiming ignorance about Lakshmi Sahagal, the Presidential candidate of the Left parties.

In a press release, the party demanded that Mr.Naidu should apologise to Mrs Sahagal for his "irresponsible utterances''. What irked the party was the Chief Minister's reported remark that in his 25-year-political life, he had never heard of Mrs Sahagal. His comment was an affront to freedom-fighters.

The CPI press release said that the Chief Minister would take extra care to know the names of directors of World Bank amd IMF but not a well-known freedom fighter who was bestowed the honour of Padma Vibhushan only a few years ago. It was a pity that the Chief Minister of a State was ignorant of the fact that Mrs Sahagal was comrade-in-arms of Subhash Chandra Bose.

NTR TDP president N.Lakshmi Parvathi, in a seperate press release, also flayed Mr.Naidu for the remark. Her party organised a dharna from 4 pm to 5 pm at NTR ghat in protest.
