An army spokesman said the four Hizb militants were killed during an encounter at Gowherpora in Badgam district today. A civilian was also killed in the encounter as ultras fired indiscriminately after being asked to surrender. However, local residents alleged that two of the killed were civilians and one of them was killed after being arrested by security forces. Four security personnel and two civilians were also injured in the encounter, the spokesman said adding a house where militants had taken shelter during the encounter was also gutted in the incident. The slain militants included a battalion commander of Hizb-ul Mujahideen identified as Iqbal alias "Lima 4". The other three were identified as Ishfaq, Aamir and Farooq. In South Kashmir district of Pulwama, a sub-inspector of Special Operations Group (SOG) of local police, Romu Razak was killed and two other personnel injured when Hizb militants opened fire on their vehicle at Nownagri-Tahab village today, a police spokesman said. Three foreign mercenaries, including a self-styled district commander of Al-Barq, Abu Zubair Madni, were killed in an encounter with a joint search party of the Army and the SOG at Sogam in Kupwara district. Two local Hizb militants were killed in separate encounters at Hampathri-Kulgam in Anantnag district and Katipora in Baramulla on Saturday. One militant was killed in Surankote area of Poonch district. In another gunfight between militants and securitymen, two Village Defence Committee members and an employee of public health engineering department were killed in Kishtwar area of Doda district. The encounter took place in the same area and a few hours after militants fired on a pilgrim procession on Saturday killing three people, they said, adding it was not known whether the same ultras were involved in the gunfight.
