5 killed by militants in Udhampur

Jammu June 16. Five persons, including three women, were shot dead by militants late last night in a remote village in Udhampur district of Jammu region.

Police sources said today that a group of militants entered the house of one Sobha Ram in Badra area of Reasi tehsil and fired indiscriminately at the sleeping inmates, killing five. They had been identified as Sobha Ram, Prem Singh, Khatri Devi, Punno Devi and Umo Devi. Four other persons suffered sustained bullet injuries.

Police parties were dispatched to the site and a hunt was launched for the militants.

Meanwhile, the toll in yesterday's attack on a group of pilgrims in Kishtwar tehsil of Doda district has gone up to six, with the death of four more persons.
