Bihar jail siege ends

Gopalganj June 16. The two-day siege at the overcrowded district jail here ended today after the district administration assured the prisoners that it would ``sympathetically consider'' their demands including the release of inmates over 70 years of age.

The Bihar Minister of State for Jails, Ashok Choudhry, told PTI that the prisoners, who took control of the jail yesterday after the death of an inmate, relented following an assurance from the District Magistrate, the Superintendent of Police and the Jail Superintendent who held talks with them.
