Sir, I have a savings bank account with a nationalised bank in Chennai. On March 28, I deposited a cheque drawn on a Mumbai nationalised bank for Rs. 381. This cheque was sent for collection and a credit came to my account on April 13, for Rs. 280.50, deducting a bank commission of Rs.100.50. For a cheque of Rs. 381, the commission deducted was Rs.100.50 nearly 38 per cent. On approaching the bank several times, the final reply was that bank commission was deducted at both ends, at Mumbai and Chennai, and that the Chennai branch cannot do anything in the matter. Can anyone enlighten me as to how these commissions are charged?
N. Ramachandran,
