Tennis
By P. Subramanyam
Mark Philippoussis, who made the last eight for three years in a row from 1998-2000, is making a comeback after several knee problems, while Zvereva, a three-times doubles champion at the All England Club, is playing again after a lapse of two years from the tennis circuit. The other wild cards entrants are James Auckland, Alex Bogdanovic, Jamie Delgado, Arvind Palmer and Barry Cowan (all British). It may be recalled that Cowan made his name when he took the seven-time champion, Pete Sampras, to a gruelling five sets in the second round last summer. The other women's wild cards are Lucie Ahl, Elena Baltacha, Anne Keothavong, Jane O'Donoghue, Julie Pullin and Rachel Viollet. However, two more men's and one more women's wild cards will be announced later this week. French Open runner-up Juan Carlos Ferrero and fellow Spaniard Tommy Robredo were also handed wild cards for the men's doubles along with other doubles wild cards James Auckland and Ross Hutchins, Lee Childs and Mark Hilton and Cowan and Delgado. Again, two more men's doubles wild cards and four women's doubles pairings are to be announced later, it was stated.
