Pension payment norms to be relaxed

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM JUNE 17. The Government would consider sending pension payments to those above 75 years, the physically handicapped and those who are bedridden at its expense, the Finance Minister, K. Sankaranarayanan, told the Assembly today.

Replying to a submission by M. Murali (Cong.), the Minister said the Government hoped to save as much as Rs. 14 crores annually with the stoppage of payment of pension through money orders.

Mr. Sankaranarayanan said in reply to another submission by A. V. Paulson Master (Cong.) that 806 toddy shops were yet to be taken by anyone under the newly introduced licensing system.

Steps were being taken to hand over such shops to toddy workers themselves, he said.
