The president of the lawyers' wing of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, A.P. Suryaprakasam, said the norm would affect many daily wage labourers in rural areas. The head of the family would lose a day's salary if he were to personally receive ration coupons. He sought a direction to the Secretary and Commissioner, Department of Civil Supplies, to withdraw the order. Any member of the family must be permitted to receive coupons and essential commodities as before, he said. The petition is expected to come up before the First Bench of the court on Wednesday.
