Excise chiefs appear before court

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI JUNE 17. The Excise Commissioner, Neela Gangadharan, and the Kottayam Assistant Excise Commissioner, Joseph George, today appeared in person before a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court in a case relating to the flouting of a High Court order.

The Bench comprising the Chief Justice B. N. Srikrishna and Justice G. Sivarajan had directed them to appear in person when it was brought to their notice that despite a High Court direction, the excise authorities in Kottayam had failed to renew the bar license of a hotel in Kodimatha, Kottayam.

When the petition was taken up today, the Government Pleader produced a copy of an order asking the Assistant Excise Commissioner to renew the licence on remitting the required fees.
