Govt. promises more help to Chitra Home

TRUVANANTHAPURAM June 17. The Government will organise free medical camps for the inmates of the Sri Chitra Home at least twice a month, with the help of expert doctors and specialists, the Health Minister, P. Sankaran, has said.

The Directorate of Health Services had allocated a sum of Rs. 3.5 lakhs towards this, he said while speaking at a function organised here today to lay the foundation stone for the new building of the Home. The foundation stone was laid by the veteran Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, MP.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Karunakaran said the Home, which had been providing shelter and education to indigent and orphan children for so many years, required all the support it could get to carry on its work. V.S. Sivakumar, MP, was also present.

The new building worth Rs. 40 lakhs of over 3,000 sq. ft in area, will be taken up by the PWD and the work is expected to start within n year. The Home expects to re-locate the living quarters of the 400-odd inmates, including 250 students, from the dilapidated building where it is now located.
