Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Left front has nominated Lakshmi Saghal as its candidate for President. With a majority of the electoral college opting for Dr. Kalam, the Left parties' rejection of his candidature on the flimsy ground of his being a non-political candidate betrays a deliberate mood for confrontation and will entail heavy expenditure. Dr. Saghal is one of the best links with the era of freedom struggle if not the only one and her credentials for the post is unquestionable. But considering her age, can she withstand the onerous responsibilities both mentally and physically as President?
M. Rajaraman,
