Custodial torture: SHRC orders probe

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM June 19. The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has ordered its investigation team to inquire into the complaint of custodial torture filed by an autorickshaw driver and AITUC trade unionist against the Poojappura police.

The petition filed by Gopakumar (32) alleged that he was taken into custody by the Poojappura police from Pallithura on October 7 evening and tortured in police custody by the local Station House officer and two police constables.

The Commission asked the Circle Inspector (SHRC) to investigate the case.
