Talking to newspersons here, the Chief Minister, Mayawati, said her Government had prepared a new economic policy under which a single-window system would be introduced to solve the problems of industrialists and entrepreneurs speedily. The Government would see that No-Objection Certificates were issued by the departments concerned for setting up new industries in a time-bound manner. Tax concessions would be allowed to encourage entrepreneurs to establish new units and steps would be taken to simplify labour laws. To cope with the problem of energy crisis, facilities would be provided to industrial units to set up own captive power plants on favourable terms. Of the two economic zones planned, the Taj economic zone would be to set up near Agra while the other special economic zone would cover the Varanasi-Bhadohi belt in the eastern region. Development of the Taj economic zone would include development of an international airport at Agra and construction of the Taj expressway. There would a Taj Export Zone to promote export of local products and an apparel park with facilities for the manufacture and marketing of garments. The special economic zone in eastern U.P. would concentrate on the weaving sector and manufacture of carpets. The Varanasi-Bhadohi belt has been a traditional centre for export of hand-woven carpets to various parts of the world. The Government would provide all possible facilities to improve the quality of products and boost exports.
