The subcommittee which met here today suggested that permission to start new courses could be granted, provided the Inspection Committee was satisfied with the infrastructure available in the institutions. The subcommittee, however, was of the opinion that no new medical college should be permitted during the next academic year. The Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, D.B. Chandre Gowda, who is a member of the Cabinet Subcommittee, told presspersons here that as many as 70 institutions had applied for permission to start new courses, mainly nursing, during the next academic year.
Special courts
Mr. Chandre Gowda said the Karnataka High Court had given permission to set up special courts to try offences under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) in the four divisional headquarters in the State. Accordingly, special courts would be established in Bangalore, Mysore, Gulbarga, and Belgaum, he added.
