The stand of the Government on PW comes in the backdrop of the naxalite party's contention that giving up of armed struggle could not be part of the negotiations to be held on or before July 20 if a "conducive atmosphere" was created in the State. A high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Friday evening to review the outcome of the three rounds of preliminary talks with PW emissaries decided that the Government would not allow the PW to take advantage of the situation. The meeting virtually rejected the assertion of the PW that giving up armed struggle was not part of the talks to be held. A press release issued by the CMO said that the contention of the PW that "armed struggle is a part of their political philosophy and political struggle is not acceptable in a democratic society.'' The brief statement issued by the CMO after the meeting asserted that the Government was committed to finding a meaningful and permanent solution to the problem.
