Tender scandal unearthed

By Our Staff Reporter

KURNOOL June 21. In a major decoy operation, the police unearthed the clandestine terror acts of "tender troublers'' and arrested them here on Friday. The police videographed the acts of hooligans near tender boxes, which had been a routine affair in Kurnool district in the recent past. The genuine works executing agencies were not allowed to offer their bids but only those who offered hefty commission.

Following the information of trouble at the Irrigation Circle office where the bids for Minor Irrigation tank repairs worth Rs 36 lakhs were accepted today, the police arranged a decoy party, led by none other than the Town Deputy SP, V. Satyanarayana. Since the proposed tank was located near Ahobilam, the gangs supported by a former MP and a sitting MP came to the tenders receipt centre "with all preparedness'' and began terrorising neutral bidders.

The Town Deputy SP styled as a bidder attempted to present his application when the scuffle took place between the two gangs on one side and "neutral bidders'' on the other. Mr. Satyanarayana was said to have requested the gangs to allow him to file the papers saying he was a small contractor. When the gangs were about to attack the decoy party, they overpowered the trouble-makers and arrested them. One gang was led by G. Bhaskar Reddy and five others.

The second one comprising seven people was led by Dilip SReddy. Both gangs were linked to influential politicians of the Nandyal area.

The Superintendent of Police, N. Sanjay, supervised the operation.

In a parallel operation at Zilla Parishad, the police picked up two persons, identified as Nagireddy and Bharat Reddy, who were preventing bidders from presenting their papers for the works of Prime Minister Gramina Sadak Yojana. A total of 16 persons were held in both cases.

At Civil Supplies transport contract also the police noticed the arm-twisting exercise and took into custody 25 people.
