Distribution of Haj application forms begins

HYDERABAD June 21. The Andhra Pradesh Haj Committee on Friday commenced free distribution of application forms for the Haj-2003. The chairman of the committee and Minister for Municipal Administration, Wakf and Minorities Welfare, N. Md. Farooq and the secretary, M.V. Krishna Rao, addressed the applicants at the Haj House, Nampally.

They later told presspersons that about 8,000 applications would be distributed this year, 2,000 more than those released in 200l-2002. The applications could be obtained from the Haj House.

Mr. Krishna Rao, the City Police Commissioner, said the filled applications should reach the office of the committee before July 23, along with a demand draft for Rs.10,650.

The DD should be drawn in favour of the secretary, AP State Haj Committee, Hyderabad. Mr. Rao urged the pilgrims to submit the forms directly to the committee either by registered post or by hand, but not by any other individual.

Mr. Farooq said of the 6,000 persons who collected applications last year 4,700 opted for the pilgrimage. About 3,000 of them were from the Twin Cities.

He said the Additional Commissioner of Police, A.K. Khan, would visit Mecca on July 25 to discuss with the authorities there the issue of accommodation of the pilgrims from the State.

The break-up of the DD amount to be enclosed with the application form is: advance accommodation charges Rs. 10,000, registration fee: Rs. 200, Haj House donation: Rs. 150 and support arrangements, State Haj Committee subsidy and service charges of the State Haj Committee, Rs. 100 each.

Mr. Rao stated that the Central Haj Committee would announce in due course the details of the payment of air fare and the foreign exchange. Pilgrims could contact the State Haj Committee office (tel.3236310) for more information.
