Subir Dutta new Defence Secretary

NEW DELHI JUNE 21. In a senior-level bureaucratic reshuffle involving a dozen IAS officers, Subir Dutta was today appointed Defence Secretary. He will take over from Yogendra Narain whose superannuation ends this month.

Mr.Dutta, belonging to the 1967 batch of the West Bengal cadre, is now, Secretary, Department of Defence Production and Supplies.

P. Shankar, belonging to the Tamil Nadu cadre of 1966, has been appointed Secretary, Planning Commission, in place of S.S. Boparai who is attaining superannuation on June 30. Mr. Shankar, who was recently removed as Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, had put in his papers.

The Enforcement Director, S.S. Dawra, of the 1967 batch of the Punjab cadre, has been shifted as Secretary, Ministry of Non-convetional Energy Sources.

P.M. Nair, Secretary, Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources, moves to Mr. Dutta's place.

S. Prabhakaran, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Power, has been appointed Financial Adviser and ex-officio Secretary to the Government and concurrently Member, Atomic Energy Commission and Space Commission. He belongs to the 1967 batch of the Maharashtra cadre.

M. Shankar has been appointed Secretary, Department of Urban Development in place of K. Kosalram, who is retiring this month-end. Mr. Shankar belongs to the 1967 batch of the Haryana cadre.

Pratibha Karan of the 1967 batch of AGMU cadre, has been appointed Food Processing Secretary. She will take over from D.P. Tripathi who is attaining superannuation on June 30.

K.K. Jaswal of the 1968 batch of the U.P. cadre, has been appointed Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

N.S. Sisodia, belonging to the Rajasthan cadre of 1968 batch of the IAS, has been appointed Special Secretary, Ministry of Power.

Vineeta Rai, of the 1968 batch of AGMU cadre, has been appointed Special Secretary, Department of Urban Development, by upgradation of the post for three months as personal to her. S.K. Tuteja of the 1968 batch of Punjab cadre, has been named to head the Department of Official Language. B.K. Misra, of the Assam cadre of 1967 batch, will take over as Chairman, Staff Selection Commission, in the rank and pay of Secretary. The senior level appointments were approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, an official release said.
