ABVP to submit charter of demands

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM June 21. The Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will submit a charter of demands to the Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, demanding immediate settlement to various issues in the educational sector.

Addressing a press conference here today, the State secretary, V. Harikrishnan, said the UDF Government had failed to settle several problems in the education sector.

Though much had been talked about the unified universities bill, the Government was yet to release the draft of the bill. Discussions with representatives of student unions had not been conducted, Mr Harikrishnan said.

Though several courses were being introduced in the universities in the State, most of them were being introduced without ascertaining the scope of the courses. He urged the State Government to publish a white paper on the functioning of the universities, he said.

Mr. Harikrishnan asked the State Government to introduce new courses as per the guidelines set by the human resources survey.

He condemned the Speaker's move to impose restrictions on TV coverage of the Assembly proceedings. The ABVP would stage dharnas in all districts on June 26 against the failure of the Government to settle the problems in the educational sector.
