Police said on Friday that Ayub Khan (36) and Nasir (46) were arrested on information given by Iqbal Ahmed and Sheik Nayaz, who were apprehended earlier. A gold ring and Rs. 10,000 in cash, which the four accused had allegedly stolen from Mumtaz Begum's house after strangling her, had been recovered, they added.
Kidnap: Man arrested
The Koramangala police on Thursday arrested Obalesha, a moneylender from Hassan, for allegedly kidnapping Venugopal for ransom, on June 18. They said Obalesha had given a loan of Rs. 26,000 to Mr. Venugopal's sister, Uma Ramesh, and she had failed to repay it. Obalesha, along with Nagesh and Murthy, residents of Kamakshipalya, allegedly kidnapped Venugopal and detained him at Murthy's house. Nagesh and Murthy are reportedly absconding.
One held for robbery
One of the three persons who allegedly assaulted a chit fund employee and robbed him of Rs. 7 lakh has been arrested by the Wilson Garden police. Prashant, Assistant Manager of Shree Gokulum Chit Fund on K.H. Road, was on his way to the chit fund office when he was robbed. Police refused to reveal the identity of the person arrested, as "it will affect the investigation.'' They said it had been established that he was known to Mr. Prashant. It is not clear whether the money has been recovered.
Burglary
Burglars broke into the house of Varadan Govind of Attiguppe on Thursday night, and took away cash, including US dollars, and gold and silver articles valued at Rs. 1,000. In another incident on Thurdsay night, burglars gained entry into the Frazer Town Post office, and took away over Rs. 200 in cash.
Woman cheated
A woman was cheated of her jewellery worth Rs. 30,000, a few days ago. Police said L. Rajeshwari of Whitefield Road was approached by a person who claimed to be an LIC agent. He said he would have money released to her from her husband's LIC policy, as she was the nominee, and advised her to open a bank account for crediting it. Ms. Rajeshwari handed over her jewellery when the accused told her that Rs. 5,000 was needed to open a bank account. Later, she realised she had been cheated.
Thieves enter temple
Cash collections over the past one year was stolen from the "hundi" of a temple in the Commercial Street police limits on Thursday night. The "panchaloha mangalya" of the presiding deity was also taken away.
Jewellery stolen
K.F. Verghese of Domlur, who travelled in Kanyakumari Express from Bangalore to Aluva in Kerala on June 14, has complained to police that jewellery worth Rs. 30,000 was stolen from his suitcase. According to police, Mr. Verghese noticed that the jewellery was missing on reaching Aluva. He filed a complaint on his return.
