In a statement here today he said that the successful completion of Left Front Government's silver jubilee in West Bengal could be gauged because of the importance that government had given to civic bodies. Murugan said that if the Government was interested really in holding the civic polls, the views of all parties should be obtained through a joint meeting with the leaders. He said that as a mark of celebration of the silver jubilee of the LF government in West Bengal the party would hold a ten-day long meetings, seminars and other programmes here. A public meeting would be held on June 27 in Muthialpet at which the legislator of the party from Tamil Nadu, K. C. Karunakaran would participate.

The Secretary of the Pondicherry State Committee of CPI, N. Kalainathan today said that the union territory administration should not delay taking steps to hold the civic polls as restoration of democracy at the grassroots level was most important. He told newsmen that the authorities should expedite the work relating to the civic polls. On the Cauvery water issue the administration should make its stand clear. Already the Karaikal ryots were concerned over the delay in releasing Cauvery water.
