OBC staff demand parity in benefits

Pondicherry June 22. The Federation of the Pondicherry Other Backward Class (OBC) Government Employees Associations has requested the territorial adminstration to initiate steps to ensure that staff of backward classes were also extended the benefits during natural calamities and festivals as were available to Scheduled Caste staff.

K.Sankaralingam, president and R.Murugayyan, general secretary of the newly formed federation, who presented a memorandum to the Chief Minister recently said the federation pleaded for 50 per cent reservation for the backward classes in Pondicherry as had been done in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.The administration should also identify the backward classes and other backward classes and extend reservation under two separate wings. Other demands of the federation were: promotional facilities for backward classes employees as had been done for Scheduled Caste staff in government departments after making reservation, constitution of a committee to ensure proper implementation of the reservation for other backward classes in educational instituitions and also in jobs for candidates, availability of scholarship and other benefits to backward class students on par with Scheduled Castes.
