Rangasamy seeks more Godavari water

Pondicherry June 22. The Pondicherry Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, on Friday handed over to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, N. Chandrababu Naidu, a draft for Rs 3.76 crores being the share of the Union Territory for constructing a bridge across Yedrulanka river linking Yanam with Andhra Pradesh.

Yanam is an enclave of Pondicherry in East Godavari district.

An official communication said today that Mr. Rangasamy, who was in Hyderabad, also requested Mr. Naidu to raise the quantum of water released from Godavari to the Yanam region to 30 cc from the present 15 cc.

Mr. Naidu assured Mr. Rangasamy that a technical committee comprising officers of both the governments would be constituted to finalise the modalities for water-sharing.

Mr. Rangasamy visited the hi-tech city and saw the ongoing construction of an indoor stadium, a swimming poll, the Dr. Reddy's Research Laboratory and beautification of Hyderabad city.

He requested Mr. Naidu to visit Pondicherry and sought his government's cooperation in developing information technology governance and establishment of IT industries in Pondicherry.The lone legislator from Yanam, Malladi Krishna Rao, the Chief Secretary of Pondicherry, T. T. Joseph, the Regional Administrative Officer of Yanam, Gautam Reddy, the Secretary to the Chief Minister, I. Vasanthakumar Reddy, and the PWD Chief Engineer, Subash Chandra Bose, were present.
