Release water, PMK tells Krishna

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI June 22. A delegation of Pattali Makkal Katchi MLAs and MPs today called on the Karnataka Chief Minister, S. M. Krishna, in Bangalore and appealed to him to release Cauvery water into the Mettur reservoir immediately to enable farmers to begin kuruvai cultivation.

The team, headed by the party president, G. K. Mani, said non-release of water would lead to unemployment to thousands in the delta districts.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu unit of the Janata Dal (United), meeting here, urged the Government to convene an all-party meeting to decide the State 's course of action to get its due share of Cauvery water. Resolutions demanding waiver of cooperative loans extended to farmers in view of ``drought-like'' conditions in different parts and urging the Government to withdraw the legislation banning strikes in industrial establishments were adopted.

The party decided to celebrate the birth centenary of Kamaraj here in a fitting manner.
