Girijans' death: policemen suspended

By Our Staff Reporter

NELLORE JUNE 22. The mystery behind the suicide of three girijans of Kottur, Indukurpet mandal of Nellore district, earlier this week, took an interesting turn on Saturday evening, with the Superintendent of Police, K.V. Rajendranath Reddy, ordering the suspension of Head Constable, Baba Vali, reception constable, J. Venkatrami Reddy and constable, K. Vijaya Mohan, all belonging to Indukurpet Police Station, as they grossly violated the established guidelines.

The S.I. H.V. Subba Reddy, has been asked to report to vacancy reserve, as it was found that he virtually got no control over the staff. In addition, police arrested one K. Vijaya Kumar, who lodged a complaint about so-called theft of money, which started the fateful events of the girijans being called and harassed at the polic station,, as he was clearly identified by Polamma, who has been undergoing treatment at hospital.

An interesting fact is the candid admission by the police, that the constables and Head Constable, were the real decision-makers at the Indukurpet Police Station and de facto Heads of the Station and the S.I. was blindly believing their versions.

The very fact that the girijans were beaten and harassed at the station, without the knowledge of the S.I. clearly showed the poor state affairs in the police station.
