APCC chief leaves it to high command

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD JUNE 22. Facing the ire of the Congress high command over some controversial remarks he made about the party leaders, the APCC president, M.Satyanarayana Rao, took the stand on Saturday that he had already furnished the information sought by Delhi.

"I have sent all relevant information by way of explanation sought by the Central leadership. They will have to verify the records in the light of criticism against him'', Mr. Rao told this correspondent. The PCC-I president was to attend a function at Warangal but cancelled the trip on health grounds.

He did not even visit Gandhi Bhavan. He had informal consultations with his followers to take stock of the situation arising from the high command's displeasure over his recent statements. The AICC general secretary, Vayalar Ravi, who is in charge of Andhra Pradesh, is now on a visit to his native State of Kerala. He is expected to bestow his attention to the APCC affairs only on his return to Delhi in a day or two.

Meanwhile, Gandhi Bhavan, the party headquarters, here, is agog with the talk of change of leadership. In a letter to the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, the former PCC secretary, Rapolu Ananda Bhaskar, urged her to overhaul the party organisation in Andhra Pradesh to regain the confidence of people.
