H.K.Yoga Narasimha passes away

Mysore June 22. H.K. Yoga Narasimha (75), noted theatre artiste and Kannada scriptwriter, died here today after a prolonged illness. He is survived by three sons and four daughters.

He was honoured with the Gubbi Veeranna Award in recognition of his contributions to the performing arts in 1998. He was honoured with the Karnataka Rajyothsava Award among others.

Mr. Narasimha wrote scripts for films such as Shubha Mangala, Ranga Nayaki, Paduvarahalli Pandavru, Dharmasere, College Ranga, Himapatha, and Kalyanathosava.

Mr. Narasimha, who was popularly called Yoganna by his peers, was born on July 5, 1927 at Halebeedu in Pandavpura taluk. He plunged into theatre activities after his schooling at the Sarada Vilas High School here.

He began his career in the late 1940s with an amateur drama company, Manjunatheshwara Nataka Mandali of Chamarajanagar.

He became popular after performing the role of Hanuman in "Ramanjaneya Yuddha". Mr. Narasimha's "Sri Krishna Sandhana" was staged at Nataka Karnataka Rangayana in Mysore.

One of his plays, "Raja Vikrama", was staged 250 times in Bangalore in the Fifties, while another drama, "Chandrahasta", was staged 150 times in Mysore, which endeared him to the late Maharaja of Mysore, Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar. Mr. Narasimha took great interest in writing socially relevant plays and scripting dialogues which were well received by the audience.

The Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, who was in Mysore, mourned the death of Mr. Narasimha. The Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, H. Vishwanath, and the Mayor, B.K. Prakash, also mourned the death of Mr. Narasimha.
