Raid on Urdu dailies, staff paraded in Srinagar

SRINAGAR JUNE 22. Offices of three Urdu dailies and a weekly were raided here today and their staff, including a ruling National Conference MLA, Abdul Gani Naseem, paraded before "cats" — informers of the security forces.

Mr. Naseem is the printer, publisher and Editor of the Daily Morning Times.

Before the raids, carried out by the Border Security Force, the building which houses the offices of the Daily Morning Times, the Daily Wattan, the Daily Vaath and the weekly, Ahtesabthethe, was sealed.

The staff members were directed to sit on the road for identification.A Daily Wattan employee was let off after an hour. The paper belongs to the former militant leader-turned NC legislator, Javid Ahmad Shah.

However, Mr. Shah was not present in the office at the time of the raid, an employee said.

The publications later resumed work. — UNI
