Pressed for his comments on the development, the BJP spokesman and MP, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, said that the VHP's stand had been known all along and there was nothing new in it. He was rather tentative in his reaction, waiting for the full details of the VHP conclave. Asked what the BJP thought of the VHP's written assurance to the Government earlier this year that it would abide by the court verdict on the issue Mr. Malhotra said: "It is for the VHP to answer this.'' The changed stance, however, did not suggest that the organisation was planning an agitation. There was no change in the stand of the Government or the BJP on the Ram temple issue. "We have made our stand clear on earlier occasions. Either the Ayodhya issue will be resolved through negotiations or the court verdict should be accepted by all.''
