The Sibsagar Deputy Commissioner, Gayatri Barua, said here that a overloaded boat was returning from a weekly market at Gaurisagar to Naokhotani when it cracked in the middle after reaching midstream and sank. Some of the passengers swam to safety and called for help and the rest were brought to shore with the help of local people. Police would keep a watch to prevent overloading of ferry boats in future, sources said. PTI
