Boat capsizes

SIBSAGAR (ASSAM) JUNE 23. Forty people had a miraculous escape when a boat in which they were travelling capsized in the Dikhoumukh river in Assam's Sibsagar district today.

The Sibsagar Deputy Commissioner, Gayatri Barua, said here that a overloaded boat was returning from a weekly market at Gaurisagar to Naokhotani when it cracked in the middle after reaching midstream and sank.

Some of the passengers swam to safety and called for help and the rest were brought to shore with the help of local people.

Police would keep a watch to prevent overloading of ferry boats in future, sources said.
