According to Customs officials, the three women -- Banda, Lubanda, and M. Vila -- were scheduled to board the Ethiopian airliner for Addis Ababa when the Customs' sniffer dog on duty, "Sikka'', raised an alarm. On checking, officials found that the three women were trying to smuggle out heroin by concealing it in the soles of their footwear. Investigators recovered a little over 2 kg heroin from the footwear worn by these women. The three were immediately detained for further checks and questioning. As the day progressed, officials found that one of the women was carrying heroin capsules concealed in her private parts. Immediately, all three were put through an X-ray test and three capsules each containing 80 gm heroin per person were recovered. The process was on till late in the evening and officials had not yet finalised the exact amount of seizure. Preliminary inquiries revealed that one of the three women was visiting India for the first time. Sources said the women appeared to be professional couriers who claimed to have obtained the drug from Mumbai and were to deliver it to someone in South Africa.
