Gola owner detained for partner's murder

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI JUNE 24. Raju Gola, owner of the famous Gola chain of restaurants and banquets and partner of Parvinder Arora, who was gunned down outside the restaurant at Model Town in North-West Delhi on April 29, has been detained for questioning by the Crime Branch.

He was detained on the basis of the disclosures made by one of the hired killers arrested by the Haryana police recently. He alleged that Raju had hired him to eliminate Parvinder.

The hired killer, Manoj Gupta, was arrested by the Sona police in Haryana for his involvement in the murder of his accomplice, More Mukut. During interrogation, Manoj disclosed that he killed his accomplice following a fight over distribution of money which they had received as ransom for releasing a person they had kidnapped.

Manoj confessed to having killed Parvinder along with his accomplices, Chuha, Chaman, and More Mukut, at the instance of his partner in the restaurant business, Raju Gola.

He disclosed that Raju, who could not stand Parvinder's growing prosperity, wanted to eliminate him. As advised by one of his Mumbai-based friends, he contacted Chuha, a known criminal of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and allegedly offered Rs. 15 lakhs for the job.

Accordingly, the criminals planned the murder, whereas Raju's son, Tushar, who is allegedly involved in the crime, passed on information about Parvinder's movements to them. On April 29 night, the hired criminals came to Delhi in a car and waited for Parvinder to come out of the restaurant at Model Town.

Manoj revealed that Parvinder was about to leave when the restaurant manager, Vicky, who is Raju's relative, informed him. At around 11 p.m., Parvinder came out of the restaurant and was talking to someone on cellular phone when More Mukut and Chuha approached him and shot at least 11 rounds from point blank range. Parvinder, who sustained eight bullets, died before he could be taken to hospital.

The Haryana police passed on Manoj's confessional statement to the Adarsh Nagar police and the Crime Branch for further action. Based on the confession, the Crime Branch detained Raju for questioning.

However, the Crime Branch sleuths, who have been investigating the case for the past one month now, chose to be tight-lipped about the duration of detention and the revelations made by Raju.

To prove his complicity in the court, the Crime Branch is now required to gather clinching evidence like weapon of offence and the money given by him to the criminals for eliminating Parvinder. The Crime Branch is yet to question Raju's son, Tushar, in this connection as he is currently in the U.S. The search for the other hired killers is on.
