Andhra Pradesh
By M. Malleswara Rao
The supply which will be of the order of 300 MW initially to be apportioned among the three upcountry States, each 100 MW, will be routed through the Power Trading Corporation, a Central agency formed recently to procure power from surplus States to cater to deficit states. The AP Transco is supplying 30 MW to Tamil Nadu against the arrangement for 100 MW, the maximum to be made available to that State depending on its requirement as per the understanding reached between the two neighbours. The power transfer is being made through the Chittoor-Thiruvellam 220-KV transmission line. It also supplied to Karnataka recently for 10 days as against a separate understanding it has with AP Transco for purchase of 100 MW but it was stopped temporarily later with the demand in that State coming down with the onset of monsoon. The AP Transco director (Commercial & Coordination), P. M. K. Gandhi, told The Hindu on Tuesday that the supply to the three northern States was being made as per the agreement signed by PTC with the AP Transco. The transmission will be done through the Ramagundam-Chandrapur 400-KV line. In all the cases, the sale price has been fixed at Rs 2.50 per unit of which about 50 paise will be the net profit. The Andhra Pradesh's power position is likely to be comfortable in the coming few months, with about 600 MW to be available as surplus. This will be not solely because of the above factors but due to hydel stations, which will become active following inflows in the reservoirs.
