Air India plans fleet expansion

By Our Special Correspondent

New Delhi June 27. Air India plans to acquire eight aircraft to operate on the U.K.-U.S. sector from the winter schedule.

The airline will dry lease six Airbus A-310s and two Boeing 747-400s. The Boeings will be deployed on the India-U.K. sector once the issue of acquiring landing slots at the Heathrow international airport in London is sorted out. The next round of bilateral talks on air services agreement is slated for next month.

With the dry-leasing of these eight aircraft, for which the process has already begun, the international flagship would also connect Kochi, Chennai and Bangalore with U.S. cities such as New York and Chicago besides Paris, the Civil Aviation Minister, Shahnawaz Hussain, said here.
