Yadava, new Deputy Army Chief

NEW DELHI JUNE 27. The Army today announced new appointments at senior levels including the two posts of the Deputy Chief of Army Staff as well as a new Director General, Infantry, at the Army Headquarters (AHQ) here. Five officers of the rank of Major General are being promoted as Lieutenant Generals and posted as Corps Commanders. Ashok Chaki, at present heading the 33 Corps at Siliguri, will take over as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (policy and systems). Lt. Gen. Chaki will replace the retiring incumbent, A. S. Khanna.

J. B. S. Yadava, commanding the 16 Corps headquartered at Nagrota near Jammu, will be the other Deputy Chief of Army Staff (training and personnel) in place of Raj Kadian. Both appointments will take effect from August 31, according to a Defence Ministry announcement. The present Commander of the 12 Desert Corps, Hari Prasad, will take over as Director General, Infantry, at the AHQ.

The new Commander of the crucial 16 Corps will be T. P. S. Brar. Avtar Singh, Joint Secretary (Military) in the office of Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CIDS) here, will be the next 33 Corps Commander. P. P. S. Bhandari will command the Bhopal-headquartered 21 Strike Corps, presently deployed in forward areas.

P. S. Subramanyam will command the 12 Corps headquartered at Jodhpur. Mohinder Singh will command the Tezpur-based 4 Corps. All the five officers are being promoted from the rank of Major General to Lt. General.
