Time apology

New Delhi June 27. As a controversy raged over an article on the health of the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, the American news magazine, Time, has apologised for certain portions, even as its author, Alex Perry, today said the weekly stood by the story and that it apologised only for a part.

Days after publishing the controversial article, official sources said the magazine had apologised to the Government for the manner in which certain portions were constructed and phrased.

The Managing Editor of the magazine, James Kelly, had written ``very recently'' to the External Affairs Minister, Jaswant Singh, expressing regret, the sources said.

Mr. Perry maintained today that the Time ``emphatically stands by the story'' although it had apologised for the sourcing of a particular quote on Mr. Vajpayee. — PTI
