Bush nominates new envoy to Pak.

CALGARY JUNE 27. The U.S. President, George W. Bush, has officially nominated Nancy Powell as Ambassador to Pakistan. A former envoy to Ghana, she has been serving as temporary Charge d'Affaires in Islamabad since the previous Ambassador, Wendy Chamberlin, returned home to rejoin her family earlier this month.

The White House, which has set up operations here as Mr. Bush is attending the G-8 summit in nearby Kananaskis, has sent her name to the Senate, which must confirm her appointment. — AFP
