GUWAHATI JUNE 27. Ignoring protests and pleas by animal rights groups, the Nepalese King, Gyanendra, today offered animal sacrifice when five animals were slaughtered after his prayers at the revered Kamakhya temple here.

``The animals were sacrificed after the King and the Queen departed from the temple premises,'' the temple-in-charge, Napakanth Sharma, said adding that animal sacrifice was part of tradition at the temple. — PTI
