By P.K. Bhardwaj
The commission's report was presented to the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, today. The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), trade union wing of the Sangh Parivar, appended a note of dissent on the controversial move to change the Industrial Disputes Act (IDA). Its objections related to giving freedom to industrial establishment employing up to 1,000 employees against the existing cap of 100 to resort to closure, lay-off or retrenchment. No Government permission would be needed for exercising this freedom by establishments in terms of the new stipulation. The Prime Minister said those who dissented too would feel satisfied with the Government when it implemented the report and that reforms did not mean overlooking labour interests.
