Belgium wins `Fair Play' award

YOKOHAMA JUNE 30. Belgium was named the cleanest team at the World Cup after finishing atop FIFA's fair play standings ahead of Sweden and Japan.

The distinction is awarded by soccer's governing body to teams that have played at least four matches and takes into account the number of yellow and red cards a team receives.

Behaviour both on and off the field and attacking play are also rewarded. FIFA spokesman Keith Cooper announced the winner ahead of the World Cup championship match. Finalists Brazil and Germany finished sixth and eighth, respectively. The prize includes a trophy, medals, a diploma, and $ 50,000 voucher for soccer equipment for the country's youth development programme.
