Career best bowling by Yuveraj

By Mohandas Menon

** Yuveraj Singh's 3-39 was his best career figures bettering the previous best of 2-24 against New Zealand at Colombo (Premadasa) on 26-7-2001. This was the best bowling by an Indian spinner in England against the home team. Incidentally, the only other Indian spin bowler who have better figures than Yuveraj against any team in England is Ravi Shastri, who had figures of 3-26 against the West Indies at Manchester on 9-6-1983.

** The three dismissals (including one stumping) by Rahul Dravid makes him the only Indian keeper with maximum such dismissals against the home team in England.

** The 109 run partnership between Saurav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag was the second best for India in England for the first wicket after the unbeaten 123 between Fakokh Engineer and Sunil Gavaskar against East Africa at Leeds on 11-6-1975.

** The unbeaten 131 run partnership between Rahul Dravid and Yuveraj Singh was India's best for the 5th wicket against England bettering the 108 between Tendulkar and Ajay Jadeja at Sharjah on 11-12-1997.

** Yuveraj Singh (64 not out and 3-39) became the first Indian all-rounder to take three wickets and also score a fifty in the same match against England. He now joins three other players who have this distinction against England - Zimbabwean Grant Flower (55 not out & 3-27) at Bulawayo on 16-2-2000; Pakistani Shahid Afridi (61 & 5-40) at Lahore on 27-10-2000 and South African Shaun Pollock (66 not out & 4-34) at Cape Town.

** India's win while chasing 272 runs was now the highest team score to win a match while batting second at this ground in a 50 over match. The previous highest was the 270-4 by England against Australia (269) on 25-5-1997.
