Army personnel killed in firing

JAMMU JUNE 30. An army personnel was killed and two others were injured in a fresh round of firing by Pakistani troops on the border in Jammu region in the last 24 hours.

Police sources told The Hindu that the jawan, Mohan Singh, was killed at a forward post by a volley of bullets in Regal village of Hiranagar sector.

In another incident, a teenaged girl identified as Shakuntla Devi was injured in the same village. Another Jawan was injured in the firing in R.S. Pura sector last evening while a civilian was injured in a land mine blast at Sinki Chapri Sordi in Samba sector.

Meanwhile, a youth identified as Rakesh Kumar was killed by the militants in Doda district. A group of militants had kidnapped him on the night of June 28. His body was found in the forest area yesterday.
