Poll reforms take effect

New Delhi June 30. With the Election Commission deciding to implement the Supreme Court order on electoral reforms aimed at preventing entry of criminals into politics, every candidate in any election from tomorrow onward will have to furnish an affidavit giving details of his involvement in any crime or conviction by a court of law.

The Supreme Court in its May 2 order had issued a five-point directive requiring a candidate to furnish an affidavit at the time of filing of nomination giving details about his involvement in a criminal offence, assets held by him and his family members and conviction in any case.
