`Infiltration still on'

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JULY 1 . The Defence Ministry today asserted that infiltration across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir was continuing despite Pakistani promises.

Citing the latest instance, it said that Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling while an infiltration attempt was made in Keran sector of Kupwara. However, an ambush party positioned barely 400 metres from the LoC detected the movement of terrorists at 3 a.m. and gunned down two of them. The ingress from Keran led the militants to Golab valley and Hafrunda forests where they re-grouped on way to Kashmir Valley. Seen in conjunction with two earlier infiltration bids in Poonch sector during the last one week and in view of the fact that for every infiltration bid foiled/detected, three to four others went undetected, it was evident that infiltration across the LoC went on in spite of Pakistan's promises.
