Govt. to go ahead with judicial reforms

NEW DELHI July 3. The Union Law Minister, Jana Krishnamurthi, who assumed office today, said the Government would continue to bring in judicial reforms to speed up the justice delivery system.

Talking to presspersons, Mr. Krishnamurthi said his predecessor, Arun Jaitley, had done a lot in the field of judicial reforms and "our endeavour would be to keep the legacy going''.

Asked if the Government would go ahead with the all-party meeting on July 8 to consider the Supreme Court directions on furnishing of information by candidates contesting Parliamentary and Assembly elections, he said Mr. Jaitley had prepared the agenda for the meeting. "We will talk to the political parties and on the basis of their views, the Government will take a decision.''

The Minister of State for Law, Ravi Shanker Prasad, also assumed office (in addition to Coal and Mines) today.

Referring to the introduction of information technology in judiciary, Mr. Krishnamurthi said ``the whole world is moving towards information technology. It should be applied in all fields, especially in judiciary to help expedite the disposal of cases''.

On the implementation of the Civil Procedure Code amendments, he said "we have to monitor the response so that the objective for which such amendments were introduced were realised''.
