Naidu for permanent solution to naxal problem

NEW DELHI JULY 3. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, today asserted that the State police would take action against those who violated law and order and wondered how the naxalites could continue with their armed struggle and hold discussion with the Government.

Referring to the ongoing talks between representatives of the State Government and the People's War, which ran into rough weather after the Karimnagar incident, he said it was the primary task of the police to maintain law and order. He said the police would act firmly against anyone with weapons and dismissed charges of `fake encounters'.

He said the Government was for a `permanent solution' to the naxalite problem but the other party has to carry it forward, give up the armed struggle and shun the path of violence The Government was clear that while the PW was engaged in talks, the organisation could not utilise the opportunity to regroup and consolidate its position. He said the PW had come forward for talks and it was up to it to carry it forward.

The PW had threatened to review its stand on final negotiations for peace and had demanded a judicial inquiry into the encounter in which four naxalites were killed near Karimnagar.
