Byelection results

Bhubaneswar July 4. The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Orissa today scored a hat-trick when its candidate, Mandakini Behera, won the Nayagarh Assembly by-election defeating Sitakanta Mishra of the Congress in a triangular contest.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party retained the Medak Assembly seat with its nominee Uma Devi defeating her Congress rival, P. Sashidhar Reddy, by a margin of 6,960 votes.

The CPI (M) has retained its seat in the Howrah Assembly election by securing a margin of 66,014 ballots. — UNI
