Adilabad TDP leaders pick up row with police officers

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD JULY 5. Telugu Desam Party leaders from Adilabad on Friday picked up a row with the police officials of Nizamabad district over the tight security arrangements for Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu's visit to the Sriramsagar project in Pochampad of Balkonda mandal.

Trouble arose after the Bheemgal Circle Inspector, Shaik Ghouse Mohiuddin, on instructions from senior police officers to restrict entry of vehicles into the helipad, stopped the vehicle of Adilabad MP, S.Venugopala Chary, and told him that only two persons including him would be allowed to proceed to the helipad. The MP insisted that he should be allowed inside the helipad along with the other occupants of the vehicle. The incident took place in the presence of mediapersons from Nizamabad who had come to Pochampad to cover the Chief Minister's visit.

In fact, apart from the MP and the DCCB chairman, the Adilabad ZP chief, Lola Shyamsundar, former Nirmal MLA, Nalla Indrakaran Reddy, and the gunmen of the MP were in the car. The TDP leaders were adamant that all of them should be allowed inside.

The CI flatly refused saying that as per the instructions from the higher-ups, the MP and the Adilabad DCCB chief, Ramakrishna Reddy, could go inside the helipad. The MP took affront to the CI's explanation and the DCCB president, Ramakrishna Reddy, picked up a row with the CI and other SIs using harsh words. The insulting manner in which the DCCB president spoke to the police officers was resented by them. The DCCB president got down from the vehicle and charged at the police officers.

Only after the CI spoke to the senior officers on the VHF set did the vehicle proceed to the helipad. Not stopping at that the MP complained to the Superintendent of Police, Shanka Brata Bagchi, about the alleged highhanded behaviour of the police officers. He threatened to bring the issue to the notice of the Privileges Committee. The SP said he would look into the matter.

However, the DCCB chairman, once again raised his voice and said that he would have assaulted the CI and others for their behaviour. He questioned as to how the police could stop the vehicles carrying TDP leaders. The Nizamabad DSP, Shaik Shariffuddin, took serious exception to the remarks made by the TDP leader and said the police had done their duty. The other police officers sought to know from the TDP leaders as to what wrong the CI and the SI had done when they were performing their duties.
