The Government has enhanced the budgetary allocation to Rs. 33 crore this year against Rs. 17.5 crore last year. Efforts would be made to make the State tourist-friendly and a telescope will be installed on the view tower at a cost of Rs. 3 lakhs. About Rs. 30 lakh has been allotted for enhancing drinking water supply in Kanyakumari and Suchindram town panchayats. The Revenue Minister, N. Thalavai Sundaram, said efforts were on to make Kanyakumari an all-time tourist destination. Creating amenities apart, the Government was also involved in attracting more foreign tourists said the Tourism Commissioner, Chandraprakash Singh. The tower has been established by the Public Works Department at a cost of Rs. 51 lakhs and Rs. 30 lakhs was provided by the Centre, the District Collector, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, said. The Colachel MLA, K. T. Pachammal, the PWD Superintending Engineer (Building division), S. Pazhaniappan, the Tiruchendur MP, A. T. K. Jayaselan and others spoke.
